Sheldon City Council To Consider Vacating Property Among Other Items On Their Agenda

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will be meeting in regular session this Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.

There are several items on their consent agenda. The items are normally approved all in one fell swoop. This time, if they vote yes, they will be approving

1. A request to vacate the unimproved portion of 13th Avenue north of 14th Street. According to meeting documents, this is a parcel of property between 1217 14th Street and 1305 14th Street, except for the standard width of a 14th Street right-of-way. The parcel is in the south-central part of town between 12th Avenue and Washington Avenue. City Manager Sam Kooiker says this would set the stage for the disposal of the property via sale or splitting the right of way with the two neighbors, etc.

2. A liquor license renewal

3. Three fire applicants

4. The Mayor’s re-appointment of Brad Hindt to the NW IA Landfill Board and Todd Uhl as alternate.

5. A Fire assistance grant agreement in the amount of $3,200.

6. And a couple of pay estimates for the water tower and 7th Avenue storm sewer projects.

In new business, the council will consider the second reading of proposed text amendments to the Zoning Code, a presentation from Emergency Services, and Capital Improvement Plans.

The meeting will conclude with various reports and comments, if any. Again, the meeting is at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday in the Council Chambers of the Sheldon Community Services Center. It is open to the public, but if you want, you can view it on YouTube Live.
