Sheldon City Council To Continue Recyclables Discussion, Accept Grain Vac, Talk Signs At Wednesday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in regular session at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday afternoon in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center across 9th Street from KIWA Radio.

On their consent agenda are the meeting minutes from the previous meeting, the list of claims, some financial reports, Mayor Greg Geels’ recommendation of Shantel Oostra for the City Council representative on the Children’s World Board, the resignation of Bill Boscaljon from the Sheldon Library Board of Trustees, a resolution adopting a new 28E agreement with Floyd Township for fire protection, resolutions approving two pay applications for the Shedon Upper Story Conversion Project, a resolution approving a farm lease for the former Pape ground, a resolution approving a final completion agreement for collection system improvements for lift stations, the approval of liquor license renewals for Axes-N-Irons and Breu Haus, and the setting of special council meeting for a property tax hearing for April 1st at 4:15 p.m. Unless a council member requests that an item be pulled out of the consent agenda to vote on separately, the entire consent agenda will be voted on in a single motion.

In old business, the council will consider passing the ordinance amendments pertaining to illegal dumping and requiring recyclable items that are placed curbside (such as cardboard) to fit in compliant cans) to the second readings, and perhaps waiving the thrid readings and approving the amendments.

In new business, the council will consider a resolution accepting the donation of a grain vac, valued at approximately $45,000 from Farm Bureau Insurance for use by the Sheldon Fire Company to help in grain rescues locally and around the area. They will also discuss sinage with Sheldon Chamber and Development Director Tania Herrera Gonzales. This likely will include discussion of downtown signage, billoards and other sign issues.

The meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers and is available on YouTube.
