Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School District is set to become the new owner of the building that formerly housed Fantasia, the coffee house formerly operated by Village Northwest Unlimited.
In an early Friday morning meeting, the Sheldon school board approved a purchase agreement for the property at a price of $375,000, according to School District Business Manager Tracy Meyer.
Meyer says the District plans to move their preschool program from the classroom that they rent at Children’s World into the new facility, once the building is remodeled. In addition, she says the District will be able to utilize part of the building as some much-needed shop space, with uses for some of the remaining space to be determined at a future date.
She says the District and the Village are working hand-in-hand to allow VNU time to relocate some of their facilities that currently remain in the building. Meyer says they anticipate a November closing date on the property. She says the District can then select an architect to create plans and drawings for the changes that will be required to transform the building, formerly called the ACT Center, to be reconfigured for the school’s use. Meyer says they’re hopeful that the facility will be available for use next fall, but she says the timeline may extend closer to Christmastime 2021.
