Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session Wednesday afternoon City Manager Sam Kooiker will report to the Council on a letter received from Sheldon’s garbage haulers, De Kruif Disposal and Schwarz Sanitation, regarding recycling in the city and the recycling container that’s placed in the Community Services Center parking lot.
The haulers, in their letter, point out that the recycling container is emptied a minimum of two or three times each week. They go on to say that, due to overuse, the container can sometimes become filled within hours after emptying it. They point out that all of Sheldon’s residents are paying for garbage and recycling service at their curbside each month. And that any emptying of the downtown container is an additional cost to the City.
The garbage haulers have proposed that the downtown recycling container be removed beginning October 1st, following Sheldon’s City-Wide Clean-Up Days, through December 21st To allow both waste management haulers the opportunity to encourage residential curb-side recycling service.
In other action, the Council is expected to approve the application of Kevin Miller to rejoin SCAT and set a hearing date on dedication of American Rescue Plan funds.
In new business, the Council will discuss an ordinance amendment regarding parking along Highway 18, discuss voluntary annexation of property and hear a report from Crossroads Pavilion Manager Tricia Meendering, before going into closed session to discuss the potential sale of the Rec Bowl/Budd-z’s site.
Wednesday’s meeting of the Sheldon City Council will begin at 4:30 pm in Council Chambers on the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center. This meeting is open to the public, and you may attend in-person, or attend online by CLICKING HERE.
