Northwest Iowa — It’s that time of year again. Time for students to head back to class. And this year, students have been looking forward to seeing their friends not since May, but since March, due to the pandemic.
Students who attend the Sheldon Community School District had the honor of being the first students back to school in our part of northwest Iowa. They went back this past Wednesday, August 12th.
Students who attend the Sioux Center Community School District were almost as lucky, going back the next day — Thursday, August 13th.
No TK-12 students in northwest Iowa have their first day of school on Monday or Tuesday of next week, but students of Sheldon St. Patrick’s School go back on Wednesday, August 19th, as do students of the Central Lyon Community School District. The next day — Thursday, August 20th — is the first day of school at South O’Brien.
Monday, August 24th is by far the most popular date to start school in the area, with no fewer than nine schools starting that day. They are George-Little Rock, Harris-Lake Park, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, MOC-Floyd Valley, Rock Valley, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Trinity Christian, West Lyon, and Western Christian.
Five more schools have their first day the next day — Tuesday, August 25th. They are Sheldon Christian School, Boyden-Hull, Gehlen Catholic, Unity Christian, and West Sioux.
