Sheldon, Iowa — Nobody was injured, but massive damage was done to a Sheldon business building when it was struck by a car Friday (September 2nd).

According to a report from the Sheldon Police Department, the accident happened at noon Friday in the parking lot at Hardee’s Restaurant.  The report states that a 2009 Ford Taurus was parked in a parking space on Hardee’s north side, facing south.  The car’s driver, 75-year old Carol Ann Winter, of Boyden, told officers that she meant to push the brake pedal, but instead pushed the car’s accelerator pedal.  Police say that, since the wheel was turned, the vehicle jumped forward, striking the Hardee’s building, and driving through the corner of the structure.

Authorities estimate the damage to Winter’s Ford at $4,500, with damage to Hardee’s building estimated at $50-thousand.
