Sheldon Farmers’ Market To Open Monday (June 1st)

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s almost that time of year again — time for local vendors to sell their items at the Sheldon Farmers’ Market.

Sheldon Chamber Director Shantel Oostra says the Farmers’ Market will be opening this coming Monday, June 1st, and it will run through September 28th. The market will be held on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. And then on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s held at the historic Union Train Depot in Sheldon at 1200 South Second Avenue on Old Highway 60. Oostra tells us what you might find this year at the Farmers’ Market.

(as said:) “This year you can look for locally grown produce, some baked goods, fresh-cut flowers, jam, farm-fresh eggs… We do have to exclude a few things this year. We do have a couple of vendors that have provided craft items in the past and just given the guidelines that we have, those items will have to be excluded from our Farmer’s Market this year.”

Oostra tells us if you are a low-income senior citizen, there will be checks available to help you purchase items from the Farmers’ Market.

(as said:) “The senior checks… we’re working on getting those and if someone is interested in those they can contact the office and be put on the list. So as soon as we have them available, we can distribute them.”

She says that due to the pandemic, there are a few extra guidelines that people will need to follow.

(as said:) “Social distancing — so staying six feet apart and just kind of limiting the number of people that are inside the depot at one time. Feel free to mingle around outside and let customers inside and once there’s a couple that exit you can feel free to enter. Masks are not required but we do strongly recommend them. And then we do ask that you kind of limit touching the produce just use the best judgment that you can while you’re at the Farmers Market given our current situation.

Again the hours are Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and for more information, you can call the chamber at 324-2813.
