Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company has submitted their Annual Report to the City Council for 2021.
The Sheldon Fire Company had 121 calls for service in 2021, which is down from 2020’s numbers of 162 (which was record number of calls).
The 121 calls for service break down like this: 15 traffic accidents; 34 general alarms where the cause was determined; 5 alarms where there was no cause determined; 1 HAZMAT call; 4 in-town fires; 10 rural fires; 3 car fires; 2 rescues; 8 Mutual Aid calls; 4 air quality alarms; and 5 calls that came under the “Good Intent” category.
According to the report, the Sheldon Fire Company’s longest duration calls for 2021 came on May 16th when they spent 8 hours on a Mutual Aid call with the Sibley Fire Department; April 3rd when they spent 4 hours fighting a rural fire; and June 2nd when they spent 4 hours on a Mutual Aid call by the Hospers Fire Department.
The Sheldon Fire Company’s average time from being paged to leaving the station was 3.4 minutes, the time from being paged until arriving on scene was 8.5 minutes, average time from being paged until returning to the station was 41.1 minutes, with time of page to in service averaging 52.7 minutes.
During 2021, an average of 14.4 Sheldon firefighters responded to each of their 121 calls for service, and they spent a total of 1,823 man hours responding to the calls throughout the year.
