Sheldon, Iowa — Last year fireworks were able to be shot off for three weeks leading up to July 4th, but this year that has changed with community feedback.
Sheldon City Manager Sam Kookier explains the change in the ordinance.
He says the City thought it was better to tighten up on the days fireworks can be shot off after hearing some feedback from residents of Sheldon. Kookier reminds residents that fireworks can only be shot off on property that they own.
Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt says people should only shoot off fireworks in an open area. He says to have a fire extinguisher or garden hose handy. Hindt says kids should only do them in the presence of an adult. And he says to be respectful to your neighbors.
