Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon residents are getting steamed up about one of the more unique town celebrations. But, some of them are boiled, some of them are grilled, and some are even cooked in other ways. Of course, we’re talking about Sheldon’s annual Hot Dog Day — and it’s coming up on Monday, August 4th.
Sheldon Chamber Director Trista Kavanagh tells us what Hot Dog Day is all about.
She says there is a contest among some of the merchants to see who can make the best hot dog for their customers. It’s called the “Top Dog” contest, and she says you can really get a unique hot dog.
There’s also a hot dog-eating contest.
She says Hot Dog Day is one of the few things in life that remain free.
According to Kavanagh, there’s a list of participating businesses (they’re not all downtown) on the Sheldon Chamber Facebook page and at sheldoniowa.com. About 5000 hot dogs have been ordered.
Again, it’s this Monday, August 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
