Sheldon Hotel/Motel Tax Revenues Up More Than $12,000 From Last Year

Sheldon, Iowa — For the past several years the City of Sheldon has had in effect a 7-percent Hotel/Motel Tax that is paid by travelers staying in Sheldon’s hotels and motels. The 2018 revenue numbers are now in, and show a substantial increase over 2017.

Sheldon Development Director Curt Strouth tells us about that increase.

Strouth says the increase is due, in part, to the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center.

We asked Strouth how the Hotel/Motel tax revenues are used.

The revenue generated by the Sheldon Hotel/Motel tax has grown from $88,948.50 in 2012 to $150,324.02 in 2018. And the 2018 figure is an increase of more than $12-thousand over 2017.
