Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man faces a felony charge of Second Degree Sexual Abuse after an incident that’s believed to have happened at the beginning of this month near Sutherland.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s office, 19-year-old Jose Alfredo Jimenez of Sheldon was charged with Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree — a class B felony.

The O’Brien County deputy who filed the complaint alleges that Jimenez knowingly had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old victim, (identified only as Jane Doe,) on a public roadway in O’Brien County on July 1, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m.

Jail staff tell us he was taken into custody Monday afternoon and was transported to the O’Brien County Jail, where his bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety, which was posted on Wednesday and he was released. A no-contact order was put in place. Records from the clerk’s office say that a preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Friday, August 5th.

If convicted on a class B felony charge, Jiminez could face up to 25 years in prison.
