Sheldon, Iowa – A Sheldon eatery, Brady’s Pub, which is located in the former Fin & Feather, Schottsy’s location on Business 60 South, offers one of the 10-best burgers in Iowa, according to the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and Iowa Beef Industry Council.
Iowans began submitting nominations on February 10th, with a submission deadline of March 10th, to kick off the quest to find the best burger in Iowa. Nominations were accepted online by the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. The number of votes each restaurant received determined the 2020 Top Ten restaurants.
Brady’s Pub Head Chef Justin Berning tells KIWA he was surprised when Brady’s made the Top Ten list.
(As above) “Oh I like I think it’s awesome yeah I mean I didn’t I didn’t really think we were going to make it I mean I’ve only been here for two and a half months and then I kind of changed the burgers thing up when I started and I must make good burger I guess.”
Berning credits Brady’s customers for propelling them into the Top 10.
(As above) “I think it’s just for the support of our customers and everyone that voted for us.”
Since he started at Brady’s Pub a couple of months ago, Berning says he has changed up their burgers.
(As above) “I go with a better ground of meat I wouldn’t give her a hundred percent shocked and then just fresh keeping of all the burgers fresh I mean I’m pattying pattying burgers everyday.”
We asked him about the various burgers they serve at Brady’s Pub.
(As above) “There’s probably about eight different Burgers I do a burger the week or every week I do a different Burger have areas on what whatever it is you know I mean like this week we’re doing like a prime rib Burgers supposed to shave prime rib I got a horseradish cream cheese on it and then I do an onion marmalade which is kind of like a candied Red Onion on a brioche bun so it’s been going over really well.”
In addition to Brady’s Pub in Sheldon, the other Top 10 qualifiers include, in alphabetical order: AllyCatz GrubHouse, Denver; Big Schwilly’s Chicken Dillys, Fairfield; Birdies, Burgers, & Brews at the Hillcrest, Graettinger; BurgerFiend, Cedar Rapids; Lucile’s at the Continental Hotel, Centerville; The Buck Snort, Council Bluffs; The Twisted Tail Steakhouse & Saloon, BeeBeeTown; Troy’s Bar and Grill, Earling; and Wink’s Bar & Grill, West Liberty.
Now that the field has been reduced to ten restaurants, the judging begins. All Top Ten restaurants will be visited by a panel of anonymous judges who will evaluate the burgers based on taste, appearance, and proper doneness (160 degrees Fahrenheit). The judges’ scores and comments will be accumulated and the winner will be crowned on May 1st to kick off May Beef Month.
