Sheldon Rocks!!

Sheldon, Iowa — Seventeen small, painted rocks were placed around the Sheldon community Tuesday afternoon as the first batch of, what is hoped to become, hundreds if not thousands, more.  The rocks have been placed by a Facebook group calling itself “Sheldon Rocks”.

Angi Kramme is the brainchild behind the Sheldon Rocks phenomenon, who says she got the idea from her grandson in North Carolina, who is involved in a similar group in that state.

Kramme says the mission of Sheldon Rocks is to spread a little joy, and give kids a creative, fun activity to take part in.

She says the group wants to eventually involve Sheldon merchants in the Sheldon Rocks activity.

The rocks, which are painted in a variety of designs, can be found around Sheldon.  If you find one, pick it up and turn it over.  The name of the painter will be listed on the rock’s underside.  Then you can take a photo of it to upload to the Sheldon Rocks Facebook page, and either put the rock back, or paint one of your own to replace it.  Kramme says even if you DON’T keep the rock you find, you can still paint your own and place it somewhere in Sheldon.

Complete directions on how to make your painted rock weather-proof can be found at the Sheldon Rocks Facebook page.
