SHS Student Leadership Team Releases Video Thanking “Essential Workers”

Sheldon, Iowa — Over the past few weeks we’ve heard the term “essential workers” used over and over again, but we don’t always stop to think about, not only who they are, but how essential the jobs they do are to helping all of us through the current pandemic.

The Sheldon High School Student Leadership Team has thought about them, however, and have released a video thanking these “essential workers” for everything they’re doing. Student Leadership Team member Emma Barwick tells us where the idea for the video came from.

(As above) “We were in our Zoom meeting one day, and we just thought that we should do something for the community. So we thought, the middle school made a video, so we wanted to try and do something like that, and just thank all the essential workers.”

We asked her who are some of the essential workers recognized in the SLT video.

(As above) “Teachers and administrators, farmers, bank people, the news people, health care workers of course.”

The video also pays homage to other groups of essential workers, including EMS personnel, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.

Barwick says the team just wanted to let the essential workers know that what they do is appreciated.

(As above) “I just want to say thank you again because this time is just hard, and they’re doing everything for us because we need all the help we can get.”
