SHS Summer Theatre Wraps Up Season With Musical ‘Footloose’

Sheldon, Iowa — The 2023 season of Sheldon High School Summer Theatre productions conclude this week, with the musical Footloose, which is based on the blockbuster movie of the same name.

The Summer Theatre program begins after Memorial Day Weekend, and wraps up the week of July 4th, with a different production each of the six weeks, from comedies, to dramas, to a Children’s show, with the season traditionally capped off with a musical production.

Summer Theatre Coordinator Lissa Lane Johnson is co-directing this week’s production of Footloose, along with Brady Dagel. Johnson talks about the reasons for the musical having two directors.

She talks about what makes directing a musical more complicated than another type of production.

Johnson’s co-director, Brady Dagel, says she’s making her directorial debut with Footloose.

Jacob Besaw plays the Reverend in Footloose, and he says he partially drew from the movie to help him prepare for his role.

Lissa Lane Johnson says she has mixed emotions as the season draws to a close.

The Sheldon High School Summer Theatre production of Footloose will be performed in the High School Auditorium nightly through Saturday, with curtain time at 8:00 each evening. Tickets are available at the door, with tickets priced at $12 each.
