Sibley- Iowa — In an emergency meeting of the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community Schools Board of Education Thursday evening, board members adopted an updated “Return to Learn” plan that updates social distancing procedures for the District in light of the effect the pandemic is having on the District’s students and staff.
Sibley-Ocheyedan Superintendent James Craig says the changes affect five areas: Breakfast and Lunch; Academic Classroom Time; Performances; Athletic Events; and Transportation.
Craig says the number one goal of the District is providing a safe environment for their students to learn, take part in activities and have the best education possible. But, Craig says, the coronavirus has made that all but impossible in the District’s traditional setting. As a result, the school board approved the new social distancing plan at their emergency meeting Thursday night.
District officials cancelled classes in the Sibley-Ocheyedan School District Friday to allow time for physical adjustments to be made to allow for the new social distancing plan. Students in the District will return to school Monday.
