Sioux Center, Iowa — One man was charged twice by law enforcement over the weekend, and one of the counts was a felony.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 9:30 p.m. on Friday night, October 7th, they arrested 31-year-old John Lamfers of Rock Valley. They say the arrest stemmed from a report from a resident on Garfield Avenue, six miles northwest of Sioux Center, that someone was inside their garage without permission.
Upon further investigation, responding officers located Lamfers in the garage. Officers then discovered there were outstanding arrest warrants for Lamfers. Lamfers was charged with trespassing and the arrest warrants. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
Then, the very next day, the Sioux Center Police Department arrested Lamfers.
According to court records, a Sioux Center Police officer states that at about 11 p.m. that night, Lamfers allegedly entered the Rent-All parking lot after business hours. It says he was allegedly an accomplice in taking a car trailer and a skid loader, valued at a combined total of $37,000. The document notes that Lamfers was allegedly caught in the act. He was charged with first-degree theft, trespassing, and fifth-degree criminal mischief.
First Degree theft is a class C felony, according to the court document. Iowa code stipulates that a defendant convicted of a class c felony could face ten years in prison and a fine of between one thousand and ten thousand dollars.
