Sioux Center Summer Celebration Scheduled For June 2-5

Sioux Center, Iowa — We are into the summer festivals as of this weekend. And there’s another one coming up in a couple of weeks.

On the weekend of June 2nd through 5th, it will be Sioux Center’s turn to shine. Organizers tell us the four days of festivities are packed with fun and events for all ages, and many are free.

They tell us that this year, Minnesota band IV Play will rock the night at the free street dance in downtown Sioux Center on Friday, June 3. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. with a local favorite, The Ruralists, and IV Play will play from 9 p.m. to midnight. A beverage garden and pizza will be available.

According to those organizing the Summer Celebration, classics will be back, like Thursday’s free Community Cook-Out, Friday’s Cruise Night along Highway 75, Saturday’s free Kids Karnival, and the car show at Central Park, plus the Summer Celebration parade. A free fireworks show will be held Saturday night at the north end of town, and the Mary Poppins musical will be showing each day at the air-conditioned Te Paske Theatre in the Sioux Center Middle School. (that’s the old Sioux Center High School)

City Manager Scott Wynja says that one of the coolest parts of Summer Celebration is seeing people come together at each event to kick off summer together. He invites you to join in the fun and enjoy some of what makes Sioux Center a “fantastic community.”

Organizers tell us that delicious food is always a highlight of the Summer Celebration. The free cookout is Thursday at Central Park and a pancake breakfast Saturday at Sioux Center Fire Station 1 raises money for local schools. Food vendors will be set up downtown on Friday and in Central Park on Saturday for delicious eats like funnel cakes, pulled pork sandwiches, Mexican tacos and corn, enchiladas, deep-fried egg rolls, and more. The Fire & Smoke BBQ Challenge is back on Saturday for a contest of flavor, ending with a chance for people to buy a ticket to decide their own favorite.

For more information about Summer Celebration and the great events planned, find them on Facebook and Instagram or visit linktr.ee/summercelebration. Again, most of the activities are free, due to the support of local sponsors.
