Sioux County, Iowa — If your nonprofit group or organization is working on a project and could use some funds, there’s an opportunity through the Sioux County Community Foundation.
The Sioux County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation, is accepting grant applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, schools, and units of local government. Applications can be submitted online at: www.siouxlandcommunityfoundation.org and are due by March 15.
Foundation officials tell us that since the first grants were made in 2006, over $1.4 million has been awarded to nonprofit organizations to help support present and emerging needs in the areas of arts and culture, community betterment, education, environment, health, and human services in Sioux County.
Iowa counties’ community foundations are given money from the state if they do not have a casino or betting track in the county. The law stipulates that such counties are eligible to receive one-half of one percent of the state’s gross gambling receipts. The community foundations also accept donations and estate endowments. Counties WITH casinos or betting tracks are not eligible for the state funding because each facility has to have a nonprofit license-holder that distributes a percentage of that facility’s gambling receipts locally.
