Sioux County Fair Promises Fun For All

Sioux Center, Iowa — It’s fair time in northwest Iowa. Kicking off the fairs in our area will be the Sioux County Youth Fair this year, starting this Tuesday.

Fair officials tell us a dog show kicks of the festivities. As usual, there will be a number of 4H activities. Among those activities on Tuesday are the poultry show and a fashion show. Tuesday evening, there will be a queen and Little Miss coronation.

Wednesday’s activities start with a fair board breakfast fundraiser from 7 to 10 — and that will be repeated the following mornings, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning too. Also on Wednesday, there’s a rabbit show and a meat goat show. There will be a beer garden this year. The Northwest Iowa Youth Classic Open Swine Show starts at 6:30 p.m. There’s a rhubarb contest and a pie contest. The 4H awards program is also Wednesday night.

Thursday kicks off with another breakfast. The dairy goat and pleasure class horse show are Thursday. They’ll have a clown, inflatables, mini train rides, a petting zoo, and pony rides for the kids.

But Friday is actually Kids Day at the Sioux County Fair. Again, they’ll start with a fundraiser breakfast. The 4H Swine Show is Friday, as is the pet show. The County Youth Council will have heritage games. The livestock judging contest is Friday. Again, they’ll have inflatables, mini train rides, a petting zoo, and pony rides for the kids, plus Mr. Twister’s balloons, a kids pedal tractor pull, and a greased pig contest. There will be a concert by Triumphant Sound and an outdoor family movie.

The fair wraps up with a full schedule on Saturday. The BBC and beef shows are on Saturday. Mr. Twister will be back, as will the clown. The same kids’ activities will be available again. The 4H Horse Show is Saturday too, and there will be a Danika Portz concert.

Fair officials also say they are excited to utilize their former commercial building this year to house their new Ag Exploration Center. They tell us it will be an exciting “hands-on” learning center for all fair-goers, and they invite you to check it out Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the fair.

That’s just a taste of all the fun that awaits you at the Sioux County Youth Fair, Tuesday through Saturday in Sioux Center.
