Sioux County, Iowa — Statewide, Iowa has a low unemployment rate, with some of the lowest rates in the state right here in northwest Iowa. As a result, it’s often difficult for employers to attract skilled workers. To address that situation, Governor Terry Branstad began the Home Base Iowa program, which is designed to market Iowa to a certain segment of job seekers.
Here in northwest Iowa, Sioux County is in the process of becoming part of the Home Base Iowa program. Orange City Economic Development Director Mark Gaul explains.
He says that a lack of skilled employees is an ongoing concern of area businesses.

He says being a part of Home Base Iowa will allow Sioux County to benefit from the State of Iowa’s efforts to market the state as a great place for retiring military personnel to live and work.
