Sheldon, Iowa — Be warned the speed limit on U.S. Highway 18 east and westbound in Sheldon has been changed.
There is now a 45 mph speed limit eastbound from Shopko to Bomgaars and vice versa westbound; its 45 mph from the east city limits near Bomgaars to Shopko. There are no speed limit changes on 18 west of Sheldon. The 55 mph limit used to extend into town, past the McDonald’s and Taco John’s corner. The city council was concerned about safety with the increased traffic in that area, and have worked with the Iowa Department of Transportation to change the speed limits.
According to Sheldon Police Chief Lyle Bolkema enforcement will begin immediately.
