Smithfield Foods Donates $20,000 To Orange City Fire Department

Orange City, Iowa — The Orange City Fire Department has received a sizable donation from Smithfield Foods.

The Orange City Fire Department is working to fulfill a capital expansion project that will expand and update the current Orange City Fire Station. The project is estimated to cost $2.7 million.

Fire officials say the expansion is needed due to safety and overcrowding issues.

Smithfield Foods employs over 200 local people at their Premium Pet Health facility in Orange City. The company donated $20,000 toward the project at a barbecue dinner for the volunteer firefighters and their families on Monday night. Premium Pet Health is a division of Smithfield Foods.

While the new truck bays at the fire station are being used now, the old truck bays are being renovated and updated at this time, and work is being done inside the administrative area. A ribbon cutting and open house is planned for late September or early October, according to Fire Chief Denny Vander Wel.
