Boyden, Iowa — There were a few anxious moments Tuesday night when dense smoke billowing across Highway 18 near Boyden hampered visibility.
Sioux County Chief Deputy Nate Huizenga says the cause of the smoke was a fire that was lit by a farmer to burn off ditches. Huizenga says the wind turned the fire, causing it to go across the traffic lane instead of away from it. He says that, thankfully, the fire was promptly extinguished and they experienced no serious traffic problems.
