Northwest Iowa — When driving in the western portions of the KIWA listening area next week, you’ll probably notice that you’re seeing a whole lot more law enforcement officers on the road than normal.
The increased law enforcement presence will be due to a special saturation enforcement effort, as Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull explains.
Trooper Krull tells us that this type of saturation enforcement is going to start happening on a regular, frequent basis as law enforcement officers in the state attempt to get the death toll on Iowa’s roads under 300 this year.
Krull says that just because there will be a higher law enforcement presence on the roads in Lyon and Sioux Counties next week does NOT mean that you can flout the traffic laws with impunity in other counties.
The Trooper stressed that these saturation enforcement projects are not about writing tickets to people. In fact, he says law enforcement officers would be quite pleased if they didn’t have to write any tickets.
Trooper Krull gives us some advice about how to avoid seeing those flashing red and blue lights in our rearview mirror.
He says law enforcement conduct these saturation enforcement efforts for no other reason that to promote traffic safety, and try to make it so that everyone on the road can make it home at the end of the day.
