Spirit Lake, Iowa — The Iowa Great Lakes area is one of the most affluent “small towns” in America. That’s according to the Bloomberg Index of Affluent Micro Areas, released this past week.
The index lists the Spirit Lake area, including Arnolds Park, Lake Park, Milford, Okoboji, Orleans, Superior, Terril, Wahpeton, and West Okoboji as number 19 in the list.
It notes that West Lake Okoboji is lined with expensive homes. The average home price in the “micropolitan” area is $167,800 according to Bloomberg. It also notes that two and a half percent of the area’s homes are valued at over a million dollars, and that 4.6 percent of households make over $200,000 per year.
The top “micropolitan” area is listed as Summit Park, Utah — a popular skiing area, where over sixteen percent of the homes are worth over a million dollars.
