Spirit Lake Man Accused Of Double Stabbing

Spirit Lake, Iowa — A Spirit Lake man was jailed late yesterday, following a short foot pursuit, accused of stabbing two people.

According to the Spirit Lake Police Department, their officers were called around 5 pm yesterday (Thursday, June 22nd), to the report that a subject had been stabbed.  Upon arrival, and after a short foot pursuit, Spirit Lake officers arrested 29-year old Nicholas Thompson of Spirit Lake.

Police say there were two injured parties as a result of the incident, but the names of the injured are not being released.  Authorities say one victim declined medical treatment, while the other was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

Police say the charges against Thompson include:  Attempted Murder, a Class “B” Felony; Going Armed with Intent, a Class “D” Felony; and Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  Cops say Thompson was booked into the Dickinson County Jail on the charges.

Spirit Lake Police were assisted at the scene by Lakes Regional Ambulance, Spirit Lake First Responders, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Okoboji Police Department, Arnolds Park Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Dickinson County Attorney’s Office.
