Spirit Lake Man Enters Plea In Murder Of Former Girlfriend

Spirit Lake, Iowa — A Spirit Lake man has entered a plea to charges that he shot his former girlfriend to death last month in Milford.

25-year-old Christian Goyne-Yarns entered a written plea of not guilty to 1st Degree Murder in Dickinson County court Monday. He’s accused of shooting Shelby Woizeschke multiple times on February 3rd outside GrapeTree Medical Staffing in Milford, where she was employed.

Police say Woizeschke was able to call 911 and identify her attacker. She died a few days later in a Sioux Falls hospital.

Authorities say Goyne-Yarns was arrested without incident within about an hour of the attack and charged with Attempted Murder. That charge was upgraded to 1st Degree Murder after Woizeschke’s death.

Online court records indicate a pretrial conference in the case is scheduled for Monday, April 4th at 11:00 am, with Goyne-Yarns trial set for Tuesday, May 4th in Dickinson County District Court in Spirit Lake.
