UPDATE: Storms Blow Through Northwest Iowa

Sheldon, Iowa — Severe thunderstorms rumbled through northwest Iowa Tuesday night, leaving downed trees in their wake.

Meteorologist Mike Gillispie of the National Weather Service Station in Sioux Falls says the strong winds were the primary feature of the storms that passed through this area.

A wind gust of 67-mph was recorded at the Sheldon Airport at 10:14 pm Tuesday night.  The winds downed several trees, including the two pictured above, which were reported down on 6th Street in Sheldon.

Gillispie says the system that passed through northwest Iowa had dropped golf ball-sized hail, and spawned some tornadoes before it got out of South Dakota, and brought the strong winds to northwest Iowa.

Gillispie says the next chance for precipitation is a very slight chance from Thursday night into Friday, with a 40-percent chance from Friday night into Saturday.
