Northwest Iowa — Severe storms rumbled through the area early Friday morning.
At 12:17 am Friday morning, the first severe thunderstorm warning went into effect for portions of Lyon and Sioux counties heading for Rock Valley, Alvord, Doon, and Rock Rapids. Following that severe thunderstorm, another one went into effect for Sioux County at 12:33 am moving towards Hawarden.
According to Alex Trellinger, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, says the warning was put out due to high winds and hail.
The only tornado warning for the night was issued at 1:04 am for Sioux County when radar indicated rotation heading toward Boyden and moving east.
Trellinger said there was no evidence of a tornado actually occurring.
Then at 1:09 am a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the four county area.
Trellinger says those storms were also warned for strong winds up to 70 miles per hour.
The final severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 1:52 am for Osceola and O’Brien counties with the storm extending from Ocheyedan to near Sanborn and Paullina.
Sheldon received nearly 1.25″ of rain during the storm, George received 2.16″ of rain Thursday into Friday according to trusty weather man Clarence Stubbe. Rock Rapids Municipal utilities says they received .66″ of rain. Sibley received 1.5″ according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
