Northwest Iowa — Strong winds accompanied by light snow will be moving across the area later this afternoon into the early overnight hours.
Gusts as strong as 55 mph will likely result in blowing snow, so be prepared for periods of lowered visibilities if you will be out travelling this afternoon and evening. Cold air will be pouring into the region this evening, leading to a bitterly cold forecast ahead with dangerous wind chills for Wednesday and Thursday.

Winds will start out from the south today, but as a strong system moves through a shift towards northwesterly winds will occur. These winds will increase rather quickly this afternoon, bringing sustained winds 25 to 35 mph and gusts from 45 to 55 mph into the overnight hours. Gusts to 60 mph cannot be ruled out. Strong winds with any falling snow will lead to reductions in visibility, making travel difficult to dangerous.

After a relatively mild start to the day, cold air returns this evening after a cold front passes through. Dangerous wind chills begin to blanket the region by the early Wednesday morning, so be sure to bundle up before heading out tomorrow. Wind chills improve slightly throughout the day, but turn colder again Wednesday evening into Thursday.
