Surprisingly, July 2021 Was Cooler, Wetter Than A Normal July

Sheldon, Iowa — It seems like it’s been hot, but the month of July will actually go down as just a touch cooler than usual in Sheldon. It also seems like it’s been dry. And as a whole, considering both last year and this year, it has. But we actually received much more precip than in a normal July.

According to the weather facts collected by KIWA Radio, the highest high was 94 degrees, recorded on July 25th. The lowest high temperature was 66 degrees, recorded on the 11th.

The lowest low in the month was 50 degrees on July 12th. The highest low was 72, on the 29th.

The average high for the month was 83. The normal is 85. The average low was 61, which was right on normal. The average temperature as-a-whole for the month was 72 degrees, and normally it’s 73.

We received 6.22 inches of precipitation for July. A normal July sees only 3.35 inches, so we were above normal for the month by 2.87 inches. The year-to-date precip has been 16.88 inches. Normal year-to-date precip would be 16.72, so we’re actually sixteen-hundredths of an inch above normal on the year.
