Teen Rock Band From George Among Three Advancing From “Iowa Rocks Talent”

Okoboji, Iowa — A teen rock band from George is among three winners who advanced from the “Iowa Rocks Talent” contest this month in Okoboji.

The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association held their first event in the 2019 “Iowa Rocks Talent” on March 21. The event took place at the Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji. Two bands and one individual won the event and will advance to Finals. Triple Shot, The Noobers, and Kaela Weston will compete at “Iowa Rocks Talent Finals” on Saturday, August 31st at the Roof Garden Ballroom in Arnolds Park.

The Noobers, a band from George, consists of 17-year-old Myles Master on Vocals/Lead Guitar, 17-year-old Martin Macias on Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, 18-year-old Solomon Johnson on Vocals/Drums, and 18-year-old Austin Dixon on Vocals/Keyboard.

Triple Shot, a band from Spirit Lake, consists of 14-year-old Gwen Gehrke on Vocals/Guitar; 15-year-olds Carter Lambert on Vocals/Bass and Lexi Duffy on Vocals/Keyboard; and 17-year-old Carley Wells on Vocals/Drums.

Kaela Weston was the youngest vocalist that night and is from Milford.

“Iowa Rocks Talent” is a 21 and under statewide event that provides professional development of young musicians and encourages participation in music outside of school. Remaining regional events will take place in Mason City (April 27), Shenandoah (May 4), Des Moines (June 1), and Dubuque (virtually in April). Winners of regional events advance onto Finals to compete for recording time and performance opportunities.
