Sheldon, Iowa — The filing deadline has passed, and it appears that three Sheldon residents will be vying for three city council seats, unopposed, in the November election.
Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker tells us that for the Ward 1 chair, Pete Hamill has filed for re-election. Brad Hindt has filed for re-election to his Ward 3 chair, and Shantel Oostra has filed for the at-large position.
Current city council member Wayne Barahona did not file for re-election for the at-
large seat. He was first elected in a Special Election on May 21, 2019 and was re-elected in November 2019.
Kooiker says, “We are grateful for [Barahona’s] 4½ years of service to the City.”
The three candidates will be running unopposed unless someone mounts a write-in campaign. Their names will be the only ones on the ballot for the positions for which they are running.
