CORRECTION: Sanborn city officials sent a correction on Tuesday. The water tower cleaning and maintenance is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, June 27th and 28th, not Thursday and Friday.
Sanborn, Iowa — Sanborn officials and their contractors have been trying to find an opportunity to clean the inside of their water tower. Now it sounds like it’s going to get done this week, and while it happens, a boil order will go into effect.
The Sanborn Water Supply is recommending to boil the water before using for drinking or to use an alternative source as a precautionary measure, due to water tower cleaning and maintenance on this Wednesday and Thursday, June 27th and 28th.
A statement released on Monday says, “IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.” Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. They advise that boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes without boiling.
Sanborn officials say if you need more information, you can contact Chris Schoneman, Water Superintendent at 712-930-3842. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
They tell us that the advisory is a precaution until bacterial sample results are available. They tell us they’ll notify us when the advisory is lifted.
