Train Malfunction Blocks West Entrances To Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A malfunction in a Union Pacific Railroad train blocked access to Sheldon from the west Saturday afternoon.

According to Sheldon Police, the train was stalled for about an hour and stretched from south of the 16th Street crossing, north to Hills Park, effectively blocking access to Sheldon via both Highway 18 and 16th Street.

A listener reported having to drive north to Ritter to gain access to Sheldon.

Sheldon Police say after about an hour the train’s crew was able to overcome the unspecified malfunction and clear the crossings.
