Tuesday Is Election Day, And In Sheldon — Merry Money Day

Northwest Iowa — This Tuesday is Election Day in the United States. Since this is an odd year, there are no major state or national races. But several people will be elected or re-elected, and some places have questions on the ballot as well.

The candidates and issues on the ballot will be related to the cities and school districts in the state.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. In our four-county coverage area of O’Brien, Sioux, Osceola, and Lyon counties — no polling place changes have been made since last year’s election. The only change is that Sheldon has been combined into one precinct — but the polling place for Sheldon residents remains the same — at the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center.

As usual, Sheldon Merry Money will be sold at the Pavilion too. The hours for that are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., but often the Sheldon Merry Money that is to be sold to the public is sold out well before the deadline. So if you want to save some money by buying Sheldon Merry Money, chamber officials advise you to come early.

They tell us $150,000 in Merry Money will be for sale. Merry Money purchases are limited to $2,000 per household or business. Your Merry Money must be spent in Sheldon at participating SCDC businesses. A 10% discount will be given on Sheldon Merry Money at the time of purchase. It must be spent by December 24, 2025. No refunds, change, or cash back are given at the time of purchase.

Chamber officials remind folks that Merry Money is NOT a loan. Consumers will purchase Merry Money at a discount, with cash up front. At the time of purchase, the customer will receive a list of the participating SCDC businesses at which Sheldon Merry Money can be spent.

Again, Merry Money can be purchased from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. — or until it’s all gone. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. — and that is statewide.
