Rock Rapids, Iowa — It’s almost time for Rock Rapids’ annual summer celebration — Heritage Days. And this year those in Rock Rapids will be welcoming back a celebrity who lived the first part of his young life in the town.
Jerry Mathers, better known as “The Beaver” on the iconic 50’s and 60’s TV show, “Leave It To Beaver” lived the first year of his life in Rock Rapids before he and his parents moved to California where he became a TV star.
Rock Rapids Chamber Director Angie Jager says the town has “Beaver Fever.” She says Mathers will attend a number of the celebration’s events, starting on Friday evening, June 16th.
She says Mathers will also make an appearance at the Central Lyon Foundation all-school reunion at the Forster Community Center downtown that evening. But that’s not all. He’ll even make appearances on Sunday.
Jager says many of the old favorite activities will be returning as well as some new ones and some returning from past years. One activity that they haven’t had since 2014 is the American Lumberjack show, which will be at Island Park.
Jager highlights some other activities, starting with a hot dog community appreciation event this Thursday evening, June 15th.
Again all that and more is going on in Rock Rapids for Heritage Days, this weekend.
