Two COVID-Related Deaths, 45 New Positive Cases Reported Thursday

Northwest Iowa — The final COVID-19 report of 2020, from the Iowa Department of Public Health, shows two more deaths and forty-five more positive COVID-19 cases in the four-county area during the previous twenty-four hours.

The deaths include one each in Sioux and Osceola counties. The additional victim in Sioux County brings their death toll to forty-four, with Osceola County’s total now standing at eight since the pandemic began. O’Brien County has lost fifty-three residents to COVID this year, while Lyon County has had twenty-five residents perish since the pandemic began.

A total of forty-five new cases of COVID were included in Thursday’s report. O’Brien County gained six cases, for a total of 1589. Osceola County increased by two cases in the twenty-four hour period, bringing their total case count to 611. Lyon County added thirteen new cases for a total of 1257. And Sioux County had twenty-four more people who tested positive, for a total of 4337.

Of the 1257 Lyon County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1063 have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 85%.
Of the 4337 Sioux County residents to test positive, 3863 have recovered, for a rate of about 89%.
Of the 1589 O’Brien County residents who have tested positive, 1374 have recovered, for a rate of about 86%.
Of the 611 Osceola County residents who tested positive for COVID-19, 550 have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 90%.

These numbers, released by the Iowa Department of Public Health, reflect the 24-hour period between noon Wednesday, December 30th and noon Thursday, December 31st.
