Two Culinary Reasons To Get Out Of The House Saturday Evening

Sioux County, Iowa — If you’ve ever wanted to take a walk on the wild side, the culinary wild side, that is, you’ll have the opportunity Saturday night in Granville. One of two events to let you get out of the house for a while Saturday night.

This Saturday, January 23rd, is the date for the 13th Annual Granville Improvement Club Wild Game Feed. If you have a favorite wild game recipe, whether it be smoked fish, grilled venison, fried turkey, or what have you, you’re invited to enter your dish into the judging for the Wild Game Feed. There is no entry fee and you may win a cash prize, as well as bragging rights.

For everyone else, you’re invited to come on down and judge the wild game dishes that will be available. For a free-will donation you’ll be able to go through the line and get sample-size servings of each of the dishes in the competition. Then at the end, you’ll vote for your favorite dish, with the top three vote-getters receiving cash prizes.

In addition to the food, there are raffles for two guns. Sadly, those tickets are sold out, but organizers tell us there will be other guns, as well as door prizes, women’s baskets and more. And there will be a special gun giveaway for kids under the age of 18.

Organizers say proceeds from Saturday night’s Wild Game Feed will go toward improvements in the City of Granville. Recent projects completed by the Granville Improvement Club include the transformation of an abandoned railroad bed just outside town into a one-mile-long fitness trail. They also help out the Granville Fire Department and do things for needy families in the community.

Saturday night’s Granville Improvement Club Wild Game Feed will be held in the Granville Community Building, right off the Fire Station, with doors opening at 5:00 Saturday evening. The serving line will begin at 6:00.

If that isn’t quite your cup of tea, the Boyden Fire Department will be holding a Drive-through Pancake and Sausage Supper Saturday night from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Boyden Fire Station. Organizers say you’ll drive up and place your order, then the food will be brought to your vehicle.

And so, we offer you a couple of opportunities to get out of the house this Saturday night. The 13th Annual Granville Improvement Club’s Wild Game Feed and the Boyden Fire Department’s Drive-through Pancake and Sausage Supper.
