Two From Doon Seriously Injured In Accident

Larchwood, Iowa — Two people from Doon were seriously injured in an accident on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in Larchwood.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that 26-year-old Darin Koedam of Larchwood was driving a 2003 International Semi owned by Midwest Livestock Service LTD of Larchwood westbound on Highway 9. A 2002 Chrysler van being driven by 84-year-old Nickolas Bloemendaal of Doon was eastbound on 9 when it crossed the center line colliding with the semi.

Bloemendaal and a passenger, 81-year-old Tressa Bloemendaal, were both transported to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls by Lyon County Ambulance. Their injuries were described as “serious.”

Bloemendaal’s van sustained about $5,000 in damages and is considered a total loss. Midwest Livestock Service LTD’s semi sustained approximately $10,000 in damages.

The Lyon County Ambulance personnel, the Larchwood Fire Department and Larchwood EMS personnel, the Iowa State Patrol, Track Side Towing, and Irwin’s Towing assisted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
