Northwest Iowa — There are a pair of High School Marching Band competitions in the region this Saturday, the Tri-State Marching Band Festival at Luverne, Minnesota, and Starfest in Sioux City.
The Sheldon Marching Orabs will be one of six area high school marching bands to compete at Starfest this year.
Cliff St. Clair is the Director of the Marching Orabs, and he explains about the preliminaries at Starfest.
St. Clair tells us what comes after the preliminary competition.
This will be the Marching Orabs second year at Starfest. Prior to that time the Sheldon group took part in the Tri-State Marching Band Festival, which is also going on this Saturday. We asked St. Clair why the Marching Orabs elected to compete at Starfest instead of continuing to go to the Tri-State Festival.
St. Clair says Starfest was a good experience for his band last year, so they elected to attend again this year.
Other KIWA listening area marching bands attending Starfest include; Cherokee, Sioux Center, Spirit Lake, Le Mars and MOC-Floyd Valley. The complete schedule for Starfest 2019 may be viewed below.
There are some KIWA listening area bands that will be competing in the Tri-State Festival at Luverne on Saturday. Taking part in the morning parade will be marching bands from George-Little Rock, and Boyden-Hull. Area bands competing in the Field Performances are Sibley-Ocheyedan and West Lyon in Class AA.
