Sheldon, Iowa — Christmas has come and gone, and while some people keep their Christmas tree up until well after New Year’s, some take it down right away, especially if it’s a real tree that’s been dropping needles left and right like an old DJ.
We had a chance to visit with Sheldon Public Works Director Todd Uhl about Christmas tree disposal. He says while Sheldon does not have a Christmas tree pickup service, you can dispose of them at the Sheldon Tree Dump.
Uhl reminds people that Sheldon has both a leaf dump and a tree dump, and they are not in the same location. The tree dump, where you can dispose of your real Christmas tree is northeast of town along the river. The tree dump can be found by heading north on Washington Avenue out of town, where it will turn into Monroe Avenue. Just before the road crosses the Floyd River, turn right, and go until you get to the tree dump.
Uhl says the dump is open 24/7, 365 days a year, and will continue to be as long as people continue to follow the rules. One of the main rules is that it is only for Sheldon residents.
Incidentally, the leaf dump, which accepts leaves and grass clippings is located by Hills Park. But again, Christmas trees (and all trees and branches) go to the tree dump, north on Washington Avenue.
