O’Brien County, Iowa — Last week we told you that the group known as O’Brien County Relay for Life is no more, having changed their name to Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County, and severed ties with the American Cancer Society.
KIWA talked to Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County Treasurer Pam Thornton and asked her what prompted the O’Brien County group’s split from ACS and their Relay for Life.
Thornton says that, while Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County will ne longer be allowed to hold Relay for Life fundraising events, they have some ideas for fundraising activities of their own.
She says by splitting off from the American Cancer Society, Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County will be able to keep the funds they raise here, for use here, in O’Brien County.
Thornton says people have been very generous in helping Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County get started.
Thornton says the group is hoping to hold a fundraising event before the end of the year.
She says the group is anxious to get input on fundraising activities from people throughout O’Brien County, as well as people who would like to join their Board. She says just contact any of the current Board members, President Mark Poyzer, Secretary Cindy Runger, Julie Becker, Mary Klein, Sheryl Storm, or Thorton herself.
