Sheldon, Iowa — Authorities have released the identity of the homicide victim whose body was discovered Thursday afternoon inside a Sheldon residence.
According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, around 4:00 pm Thursday (March 23rd), a family member found the body of 62-year-old Jody Lynn Duskin inside her home at 604 4th Avenue, across the street southwest of the Sheldon City Park.
Authorities say on Saturday March 25th, the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner conducted a forensic autopsy, ruling Duskin’s death a homicide.
Early Friday afternoon, authorities say Tribal Police in Flandreau, South Dakota, located Duskin’s son, 41-year-old Nathaniel Byron Kassel of Rock Rapids, and placed him under arrest on warrants charging him with 1st Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, in connection with his mother’s death.
According to the DCI, Kassel is currently in custody at the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office in South Dakota. He will be returned to Iowa after a judge approves his extradition.
