Voter Turnout During First Day Of Early Voting In Our Area

Northwest Iowa – An above-average number of people in the four-county area of O’Brien, Sioux, Lyon and Osceola counties showed up at their County Auditor’s Offices this Wednesday, October 16th, the first day of Early Voting for this year’s election.

The political race getting the most attention this year is, of course, the Presidential race between Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris and the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump. Here in the fourth U.S. Congressional District, incumbent Republican Randy Feenstra is challenged by Democrat Ryan Melton in a repeat of the 2022 election.

With both major national political parties urging their constituents to vote early, that message apparently resonated here in northwest Iowa. According to the O’Brien County Auditor’s Office, Wednesday saw 50 voters come in to the Auditor’s Office to cast their early ballots. Officials say that translated to a steady stream of voters throughout the day.

Sioux County officials tell us they were extremely busy with early voting on Wednesday, with 121 Sioux County voters casting their ballots.

In Osceola County, the Auditor’s Office reports a very busy day, with 32 of that county’s registered voters appearing at the Auditor’s Office to cast their early votes.

Lyon County is one of the few in the area that have a hotly-contested county-wide race. Incumbent Republican Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep is seeking re-election on the Libertarian ticket after losing in the GOP primary to Republican candidate and Iowa State Trooper Brian Hilt. In Lyon County, 37 of the county’s registered voters went to the Auditor’s Office Wednesday to cast their ballots.

For those of you who want to cast your ballot on Election Day, you’ll want to mark Tuesday November 5th on your calendar.
