Northwest Iowa — Monday’s report from the Iowa Department of Public Health shows positive COVID test results in our area during the past seven days has spiked sharply.
Sioux County reports 28 new positives in the past week, compared to 10 in our last report. Lyon County saw 23 positive tests, up from 2 in the last report. O’Brien County added 16 positives to it’s tally, an increase of 5 from the previous report. Osceola County was the only area where we saw a reduction of 6 positives from the last report, having just 1 positive result during the past seven days. Those numbers mark an average 35% increase in positive results for the four-county area of Sioux, O’Brien, Osceola and Lyon Counties over the previous report.
The positive news is that there were no additional COVID-related deaths in our four-county area since the previous report. Unfortunately, we have lost 189 people to the virus since the pandemic began: 74 in Sioux County; 57 in O’Brien County; 41 in Lyon County; and 17 in Osceola County.
