Inwood, Larchwood, Alvord, Statewide, Iowa – West Lyon alum and now former Special Teams Coordinator LeVar Woods announced in a press conference in Iowa City yesterday (December 18th) that he is leaving the Hawkeyes to take a job at Michigan State University.
Woods had been on the coaching staff in Iowa City since 2008. And played for the Hawkeyes after growing up in Alvord, Iowa and playing for legendary head coach Jay Rozeboom at West Lyon.
Woods will coach in the Reliaquest Bowl against Vanderbilt before heading for East Lansing.
An emotional Woods addressed the media Thursday.
“First and foremost, there are definitely places that shape you, and there are places that make you. For me, Iowa is both…..” ” I feel like it’s an opportunity to go somewhere where you can build from the ground and see it from a different way, a different perspective, yet still have that same thought of trying to develop men, trying to develop the person, not just, hey, here’s a good football player, let’s pay him this and get him out of here..”
Woods concluded by saying that the University of Iowa will never be out of his thoughts.
“I will always be a Hawkeye and go Hawks”
