Statewide Iowa — If you own a car there is always the risk that somebody will steal it.
After decades of steadily declining rates, auto thefts have increased dramatically in recent years. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) latest Hot Wheels report, there were reported 880,595 vehicle thefts in 2020, up 11% from 794,019 in 2019. Nationwide, about one vehicle was stolen every 36 seconds.
The website Insurify.com have analyzed the most recent NICB Hot Wheels report to identify the most stolen cars in America.
Insurify’s analysis shows the most stolen vehicle in Iowa is the full-size Chevrolet pickup truck. In fact, the full-size Chevy pickup is also the most stolen vehicle in North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, as well.
Insurify says the full-size Ford pickup is the vehicle of choice for car thieves in Kansas and Missouri, while the most stolen vehicle in Illinois is the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Apparently, car thieves in Minnesota and Wisconsin are more concerned about gas mileage, since the most stolen vehicle in those states is the Honda Civic, according to Insurify.
